Myzone vs. wrist trackers

According to ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal, wearables trumped the top spot for trends in 2019. However, the question between Myzone or wrist trackers still stands.

More and more people are getting involved with wearable products, from retailers such as Apple, Samsung, or Fitbit, but how are club owners using this data as a motivational tool to engage with their members? With Myzone, operators can understand exactly what their customer is doing and how often they are doing it, while also receiving accurate data that they can utilise to make better business decisions.

"Myzone provides operators with a suite of products and features, ranging from built-in challenges to gamify their club, personal goal setting to enhance member engagement, and online social connections to help build a community amongst members. Myzone offers a full integration process to ensure the implementation within each facility is a success, eliminating the risk factor of club owners just crossing their fingers and hoping it works," said Gemma Bonnett-Kolakowska, global marketing director at Myzone.

Myzone measures a user’s heartrate, (accurate to an EKG at 99.4 per cent), during exercise and monitors all activity. Rather than counting steps, Myzone tracks intensity throughout any exercise, i.e. strength training, cycling, HIIT, yoga, etc. by monitoring a user’s percentage of max HR with five simple, colored-coded zones that translate into Myzone Effort Points, or MEPs, rewarding users based on overall effort. A feature that wrist trackers lack.

Myzone measures data only while users are wearing the belt, recording their workouts and monitoring their overall exercise activity. This info is then stored on the Myzone app, allowing members to keep track of their fitness progression overtime. Operators also have access to KPI reports on their users within their personal management portal so that they can stay up to date on their customers' activity and progression. Wearables have proven they are here to stay. Therefore, making the decision to implement a wearable solution, like Myzone, that helps to understand member behaviour is just the basis of business intelligence.
